As part of a “Smart Région” call for projects by the Walloon Region, Gembloux has installed a network of air quality sensors, mainly in the city center and near school facilities. The project, conducted with BEP and ISSEP, aims to objectively assess the impact of traffic on the local environment while raising public awareness.
The sensors measure fine particles and other pollutants, and the data collected is made available to everyone via BEP’s open data platform.
This project is designed to be replicable. Other municipalities in the province – or beyond – are invited to join this initiative and use the shared visualization and sharing platform set up by BEP.
