Protected Urban Planning Areas in Wallonia

This dataset includes protected areas where specific urban planning provisions apply (ZPU), as well as Walloon villages made up of an original and coherent heritage and concerned by a General Regulation on Buildings in Rural Site (RGBSP). - Protected urban planning areas (PPAs) are areas where specific urban planning regulations apply. These areas are subject to the General Building Regulation applicable to protected areas in urban planning (RGB/ZPU). It is a regional urban planning regulation that aims to define the procedures to be followed in terms of width of streets, harmony of facades with the area to be safeguarded, compliance of roofs with traditional local constructions, areas of courtyards and gardens, soil treatment of streets, squares, alleys and dead ends, commercial ground floors, etc. These provisions are enshrined in the CWATUPE (Articles 393 to 405). - The General Regulation on Buildings in Rural Areas (RGBSR) fills a gap in terms of general rules applicable to the rural area as a whole, for which previously there was only the too vague notion of good land-use planning. Indeed, regional and communal leaders are faced with the proliferation of projects that do not respect the built environment and the urban values of many villages. Faced with this situation, the Government decided, by order of 10 July 1985, to enact town planning rules specific to certain Walloon villages in so far as they still constitute an original and coherent heritage. RGBSR is defined in Articles 417 to 430 of the CWATUPE. The adoption of an RGBSR is determined by government order.
