Namur - Resilient forests: On 15 November 2022, a draft management plan for the municipal forests of Namur was approved by the Municipal Council. This management plan aims to set the broad guidelines for the sustainable management of municipal forests in the long term, including the protection of the environment and plant and animal biodiversity. It will serve as a guide for (at least) the next 32 years for the management of our forests. This plan is a first: Namur has decided to place 30% of its forest estates in a "integral biological reserve" for the benefit of nature and biodiversity (while Wallonia imposes only 3%). This represents a total of 91.37 hectares. This means that these parts of the forest will no longer be affected for at least the next 32 years! A decision that highlights the willingness of the City of Namur to promote the restoration of biodiversity on the communal territory and to strengthen the resilience of communal woods to climate change.
