Sofas have long been provided on squares and streets, in parks and beds, under trees and along quays. This furniture turns the public domain into a public space, ensures the distinction between street and stone road; it turns the outdoor space into a space where it is pleasant to sit, rest, communicate, observe or even play. For many years, the city of Antwerp installed ‘centaure’ benches. This turned out to be an extremely maintenance-friendly sofa because of its simple composition with a minimum of parts. With this in mind, a standard was created that met a high set of requirements, ranging from maintainability to functionality to budget-friendliness. This standard bench is maintained, the possible variations are even extended .
