INSPIRE - Soil use - WALOUS 2018 in Wallonia (BE)

Helpdesk carto du SPW (SPW - Secrétariat général - SPW Digital - Département Données transversales - Gestion et valorisation de la donnée)

This series of spatial data layers includes the mapping of the land use of the entire Walloon territory for 2018 as part of the INSPIRE theme "Soil use" and covering the Walloon territory. The European Directive 2007/2/EC - INSPIRE Directive - establishes an infrastructure for spatial information in the European Community. INSPIRE applies to 34 thematic areas divided into 3 Annexes. This series includes the spatial data layers referring to land use (Annex 3.4). Within the meaning of the Directive, the theme "land use" covers "territories characterised by their intended functional dimension or their current and future socio-economic object (e.g. residential, industrial, commercial, agricultural, forestry, recreational)". The mapping of land use for the entire Walloon territory for 2018 (WAL_UTS__2018) is complementary to the mapping of land use (WAL_OCS__2018) produced jointly under the WALlonie Occupation et Utilisation du Sol (WALOUS) research grant. The land use represented in the WAL_UTS__2018 data is defined as the ‘Territory characterised by its functional dimension or its current socio-economic purpose (e.g. residential, industrial, commercial, agricultural, forestry, recreational)’ (European INSPIRE Directive 2007/2/EC). The technical specifications of the WAL_UTS__2018 data are the result of a needs analysis procedure and co-constructions with a panel of Walloon stakeholders. The WAL_UTS__2018 data itemises land use according to two classifications: - The attribute ‘walusmaj’ shows the main land use according to an amendment to the INSPIRE legend resulting from the co-construction procedure with Walloon users; It can be broken down into three levels of detail; - The attributes ‘allHilucsLandUse’ show land use in accordance with the technical specifications of the INSPIRE Directive under scenarios 1 and 2 of the legend ‘Hierarchical Land Use Classification System (HILUCS)’. Data WAL_UTS__2018 provides information on land use per cadastral parcel and for non-cadastral areas. In the near future, this information will be consolidated by business geometry (see associated resources). The implementation of the WAL_UTS__2018 data is part of the WALOUS project (2017-2020) subsidised by the Walloon Region and carried out by a consortium of two universities (UCLouvain, ULB) and a public research centre of the UAP type (ISSeP).
