INSPIRE - Digital Soil Map in Wallonia (BE)

Helpdesk carto du SPW (SPW - Secrétariat général - SPW Digital - Département Données transversales - Gestion et valorisation de la donnée)

This INSPIRE data reproduces the plates of the Map of the Soils of Belgium covering the Walloon territory, including the unedited plates. This data in INSPIRE compliant format comes from the data Digital Map of Soils of Wallonia The Digital Map of the Soils of Wallonia (CNSW or CNSW__SIGLES_20) is the digital reproduction of the sheets of the Map of the Soils of Belgium covering the Walloon territory, including the unedited sheets. Thus, more than 500 000 soil ranges are taken up in the form of polygons (vector layer). More than 6000 soil units are the legend of the map, to which the soil ranges are attached. These units are represented in the form of acronyms formed by the concatenation of symbols, each delivering information of an essentially morphological nature on soils. The basic mapping unit of the CNSW legend is the main series defined by 3 or 4 major characteristics: texture, natural drainage, presence of a diagnostic horizon; nature and extent of the coarse element load. The addition of symbols in prefix (derived series) or suffix (variant or phase) makes it possible to specify certain secondary characteristics, such as the nature and depth of appearance of a different substrate, particularities related to parental material, profile development, anthropogenic influences or topographical position. Version 1.3 (February 2021) includes, in addition to the existing fields in the previous version, a new field specifying the estimated percentage of the surface stony load. This information is useful for issues such as erosion or fertilisation. This information comes from expert opinion and is subject to change in later versions of the layer. The data layer is identified under the label "Series, Variants, Phases".
