Green Climate Axes Ghent

Eight green climate axes together form a nature- and water-rich network that connects the inner city for cyclists, hikers and fauna & flora with the open space and the five green poles on the outskirts of Ghent. The axes better connect fragmented pieces of nature and water in the city. We create wide and largely car-free connections along which it is wonderful jogging, walking and cycling. It increases the habitat of many plants and animals and we maintain the natural migration routes of many species and therefore the population healthy. The green climate axes also provide a supply of cool air deep into the centre of Ghent and retain rainwater. The Green Climate Axes project is a total package. The system consists of the green, inner-city network, the 8 green climate axes, the green recreational ring and the green nodes. The green nodes are places in the city where parts of the green climate axes system intersect.
