This is an opportunity map for softening with scores for the softening opportunity of a road classified as ‘too wide’ as set out in the report. Roads included in the dataset are taken from the medium-scale reference file Road Register, version 2020. Roads are designed according to the prevailing speed regime. When the speed regime of a road is adjusted, it can happen that the physical road is oversized. There are opportunities for annealing roads in the width. This opportunity card related to 'too much road in width' contributes to the preparation of the final opportunity card for softening profit (https://www.vlaanderen.be/data location/catalogue/opportunity card softening profit). In order to efficiently and effectively reduce the degree of hardening, it is important to gain insight into those locations that are most likely to soften the soil. In order to determine where annealing is most promising, the opportunity map of annealing gains (and assessment framework) was thus developed. The opportunity maps – including the opportunity map related to too much road in width – show per parameter whether a paved location is difficult or easy to anneal based on the properties of the pavement itself and therefore has a large or small opportunity for annealing. More information about the creation of all priority and opportunity cards and the final combination to the final opportunity card softening profit can be found in the final report of the study carried out on behalf of the Environment department: https://researchportal.be/en/publication/softening profit-weighting framework-and-opportunity map-part-1
