This table gives an overview of the number of times the General Tax Administration surveyed banks, by calendar year and type of tax. Several different financial institutions may have been interviewed for the same taxpayer. In terms of income taxes, the number of 770 bank investigations corresponds to the number of times the General Administration of Taxation has questioned banks. These surveys involved 392 taxpayers (in case of joint taxation, each spouse/legal cohabitant is counted as a separate taxpayer). It goes without saying that, for the same taxpayer, several different financial institutions may have been interviewed. The same applies to VAT: the General Tax Administration surveyed banks 543 times and bank secrecy was lifted for 285 VAT payers.
