Landfills in Flanders

In Flanders, less than 2% of waste is landfilled in 2022. The past, however, saddles us with many former landfills that still exist. This raises the question of its future possibilities. In response, OVAM developed an approach for sustainable stock management of landfills. A first and crucial step is a thorough inventory. This map shows the location of the known landfills in Flanders. It is part of the European INSPIRE directive to make geographical data of governments more accessible to both governments and the public. The map contains the risk grounds with Vlarebo sections referring to the presence of a landfill (2.3.6, 2.3.7 or 2.3.11). It is based on the administrative information that is currently known
