The PNV shows what Potential Natural Vegetation could develop in the event of natural afforestation. Human interventions that significantly alter hydrology, soil, etc. were not taken into account. The map is optimally used on a scale of 1:20,000. The map is suitable for landscape studies, ecosystem visions, etc., but less so for detailed studies (management plans, EIAs, ... ). After all, the map was developed from the digital soil map and partly takes over its errors. In sea and polders in the brackish water area along the Scheldt, forest is not a climax and these areas were not colored.
