Land use - Flanders - state 2022

Vlaams Planbureau voor Omgeving

This map shows the actual land use for every 10m cell within the Flemish Region, and this for state year 2022. The concept of ‘land use’ refers to the actual use of the land for defined human activities such as housing, industry and services, recreation, ... or crops, such as arable farming, grass cultivation, ... or natural vegetation , such as forest, scrub, ... The actual land use of a site is not necessarily identical to the legal-planological destination of this site. Land can be intended as a residential area, but effectively used as grassland or arable land. This map does not contain any information about the planning destination. The actual land use, as shown on this map, has been compiled on the basis of the 4 data levels of the 'land use file 2022'. In particular, this is done by combining and aggregating a number of categories from the different data levels of this land use database. For more details about the creation of the underlying 'land use file' (with 4 data levels) and the composition of this resulting land use map, please refer to the technical report 'Poelmans Lien, Janssen Liliane, Hambsch Lorenz (2023), Land use and land take in Flanders, state 2022, carried out on behalf of the Flemish Planning Bureau for the Environment', which can be found at https://archief.onderzoek.omgeving.vlaanderen.be/Research-6426438
