Overview of the areas, located in Flanders, within which a management agreement for Natura 2000 species (gray harrier, gray shrike, corncrake and hamster) can be concluded, as stipulated by Ministerial Decree.Natura 2000 is a European network of protected natural areas designated under the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive. The Birds and Habitats Directives are EU directives that specify which species and habitats (species habitats) should be protected by the Member States. Within the protected natural areas, Member States must achieve certain objectives in favour of biodiversity (conservation objectives). The objective is that the loss of plant and animal species is stopped in 2020 and restored as much as possible. In this context, the following management agreements are possible: construction and maintenance of a lucerne strip, hamster-friendly progeny, construction and maintenance of a lucerne strip bird field, mixed grass strip bird field. The farmer receives an annual fee for this for five years.Management areas for Natura 2000 species are part of the species protection management areas. The management areas for the management objective species protection are defined on a proposal from the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO) on the basis of the latest available monitoring data.
