The indicator relates the number of beneficiaries of the Guaranteed Income for Older Persons or Guaranteed Income (GRAPA or RG) to the population aged 65 and over, as of 1 January . The Guarantee of Income for Older Persons (GRAPA) is a benefit granted to older persons whose income is too low to support themselves. Since 2001 it has replaced the former Guaranteed Income (GR). A GRAPA is obtained after an examination of the applicant’s livelihood. They must also meet age, nationality and residence requirements. The National Pensions Office (ONP) examines GRAPA entitlements automatically in certain cases (request for a retirement pension, pre-pensioner who reaches the legal age). Persons wishing to obtain a GRAPA may also apply to the ONP themselves. If the application is received positively, the applicant will receive an amount that will take into account his or her family situation. The basic amount is applicable when the applicant shares the same principal residence with one or more persons and the increased basic amount is allocated to the single applicant, i.e. who does not share his principal residence with other persons.
