According to the definition of "[\2](\1)" "Agri-environmental measures [AEM] make it possible to remunerate farmers who voluntarily undertake to preserve the environment and maintain rural areas. [...] they are an essential part of the scheme to integrate environmental concerns into the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). They aim to encourage farmers to protect and enhance the environment by paying them for the provision of environmental services. Farmers undertake, for a minimum period of five years, to adopt environmentally friendly farming techniques that go beyond legal obligations. In return, they receive financial assistance that compensates for the additional costs and income foregone resulting from the adoption of these practices, provided for under agri-environmental contracts. The key indicator listed here is the overall participation rate in agri-environmental measures (AEM). It corresponds to the number of farmers operating at least 10 ares in the entity and having at least 10 ares in EAW divided by the number of farmers operating at least 10 ares in the entity.
