Share of area occupied by conifers (>3m)

Julien Charlier

Land cover is defined as the ‘physical and biological coverage of the land surface, including artificial surfaces, agricultural areas, forests, (semi-)natural areas, wetlands and water bodies’ (European INSPIRE Directive 2007/2/EC, 2007). Land cover therefore corresponds to what covers the ground, to what is found there: a wood, a cultivated land, a building, a body of water... It must be distinguished from its use which specifies the function or use of a type of occupation. Thus, a land use that would be "herbaceous covered" could correspond to several uses such as a residential garden or pasture. More information on this distinction: "[\2](\1)". The proposed indicators relate to the area and the share (%) of area of eleven land use classes. They were produced from the 2023 land cover mapping carried out as part of the WALlonie Occupation et Utilisation du Sol (WALOUS) project and based on airborne data. More information on the project "[\2](\1)"
