The landscape features map is the result of the supplementary inventory of spatial landscape features of superlocal importance in Flanders. The listed spatially structuring landscape elements and characteristics are both physical (relief, hydrography,...), biotic (plants, shrubs, trees, cultivated crops,...) or human (settlement geography, land take and colonization, living and working, agriculture and industry, traffic and transport,...) nature. The term "spatially structuring landscape feature" has been operationalised on the basis of 3 criteria: the characteristic has, by its presence, an influence on the structure, spatial configuration; it is visually dominant and has a beacon function; It is typical of a particular region. The mapping of the main landscape features has been carried out on map scale 1: 50 000.
