What percentage of the population has already acquired supplementary pension rights? The main focus is on all persons who have already acquired supplementary pension rights (both active and dormant members), and they are compared to the whole working population. This refers to all persons aged between 16 and 65 who live and work or are looking for work in Belgium. Then, the percentage of people who are actively affiliated to a supplementary pension plan is calculated. The focus is therefore on people who still have complementary rights in their current job. Therefore, no account is taken of persons who have acquired rights in a previous job, but who no longer do so (sleeping). The identified group is again compared to the labour force. Finally, the focus is on employees and self-employed people who are actually working, as supplementary pensions are employment-related and only those who are working can build one. Jobseekers and statutory civil servants are no longer taken into account, as they cannot build up a supplementary pension. For self-employed persons, both self-employed persons with a main activity and self-employed persons with a complementary activity are taken into account, provided that they pay social security contributions as a main self-employed person. Both groups of self-employed persons may constitute a supplementary self-employed pension.
