Ozone exceedance days

Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij

The NET60ppb-max8u is a European ozone exceedance indicator for the protection of human health. This value represents the number of days per calendar year on which the highest sliding 8-hour mean ozone concentration in a day exceeded 120 μg/m3 The European target value evaluates the number of exceedance days on average over 3 years. The summer of 2023 was a rather hot summer. Together with the warm summer of 2022 and the wet, mild summer of 2021, this results in a moderate 3-year average. The target value for health was not exceeded anywhere. The European long-term target was exceeded at all measuring points in Flanders in 2023. The number of ozone exceedance days in Flanders is higher in the east of the country.
