Residential area per capita (m2)

Julien Charlier

Residential area per capita is the number of square metres that, on average, is occupied for the residential function. This is the ratio between the area of residential land and the number of inhabitants. The residential plots correspond to the plots hosting houses, apartments, gardens, vegetable gardens, garages, courtyards, rectory, castles... They are therefore plots that accommodate housing, but also their built and unbuilt annexes. From the situation as at 01/01/2018, the area values of the Walloon municipalities used for the calculation of the indicators are the new areas provided by the FPS Finance/Cadastre. Areas are taken from the FPS Finance CADGIS system, which uses the latest measurement techniques and provides a more accurate picture of the actual area of administrative units.
