CENSUS 2011: Number of self-employed: total

Laurence Vandendooren

Self-employed workers and carers include all persons aged 15 or over who, on 31 December 2010, are subject to INASTI. A self-employed person is a natural person who pursues a professional activity because of which he or she is not bound by an employment contract or by a statute. The assisting worker (including assisting spouses) is a natural person who assists or replaces a self-employed person in the exercise of his or her activity without being bound by an employment contract. Data from the 2011 Census are the most recent data we currently have at the sub-communal level. The Census population is not strictly defined in the same way as that used for the other labour market indicators. This can impact the results even if the orders of magnitude remain the same. See also: Other indicators relating to self-employment are available under the theme 'Economic activity' and focus instead on industries. Some indicators of the theme are also available by statistical sectors on the website of the "[\2](\1)"
