Number of owners of immovable property

This table shows the number of property owners as of January 1 of each year. The first figures show the number of owners of property located in Belgium, whether these owners are Belgian residents or not. Owners of property abroad, on the other hand, are Belgian residents who have declared a property located abroad. 'Owner' means the holder of a right in immovable property. This right can be of different types (full ownership, usufruct, bare ownership, emphytheosis,...). Since 2015 we have applied a calculation method in which owners with plots in different municipalities are counted only once. From the data as of 1 January 2016, the owners are subdivided by legal nature and for natural persons, by sex. Over the past 3 years, we have not seen any relevant fluctuations in the number of owners. This number increases slightly each year.
