Groundwater catchment areas and protection zones (2016)

Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij

This map provides an overview of established protection zones around groundwater extractions in the Flemish region. A protection zone is the geographical area defined in accordance with Article 3.2 of the Decree of 24 January 1984 laying down measures for the management of groundwater in order to safeguard groundwater in a catchment area against pollution. The procedure for realising the demarcation is laid down in the Decree of the Flemish Government of 27 March 1985 on regulations and permits for the use of groundwater and the demarcation of water catchment areas and protection zones.
