The Landscape Atlas is the result of a rapid survey of the relics of traditional landscapes in Flanders, based on the available sources of information, map series and colour orthophotos from around 1990. The layout was done by province, started in 1996 and was completed in 2000. This is therefore the reference period for this inventory. A relic is a remnant from earlier times that still testifies to the condition that was then. With regard to landscapes, relics can be very diverse in nature and testify in many cases to a genesis history. Therefore, a classification was made according to the spatial dimension that the relics possess in the landscape and this in relation to the map scale 1/50,000 used. Essentially, these are point, line, and plane relics. The categories are therefore point and line relics, relict zones and anchorages.
